Community Events from Philly311 and PhillyRising!

2/21- Neighborhood Services Division is working w/ East Park Revitalization Alliance (EPRA) to disassemble a community garden at 33rd and Arlington ahead of impending construction. (Thu, February 21, 9am – 12pm)

2/21- “Let’s Step Up Our Game and Be Ready” Workshop. Bakers Center at Fox St. between Hunting Park and Roberts Ave. is coming to the N. Philadelphia neighborhood and will be providing hundreds of jobs. Attend these informative workshops to be prepared for that new job. (Panati Recreation Center, 22nd and Clearfield Street, 10am – 4pm)

2/21- The Philly311 Mobile Squad will be attending the monthly meeting for Garden Court Community.  (4725 Chestnut Street, Community College (West Philadelphia), 6:30pm 8:30pm)

2/21- The Philly311 Mobile Squad will be attending the monthly Mantua Civic Association meeting.  This is open to the public. (Grace Lutheran Church, 36th and Haverford Avenue 7:00pm 8:30pm)

2/23- The Zoo Crew Presents: Save the Orangutans! “Join the Zoo Crew Teens from the Philadelphia Zoo at the Widener Branch. You will learn about orangutans, their connection to palm oil, and what we can do to help protect these magnificent and endangered creatures. As an added attraction, a special Zoo Animal Ambassador will join the fun.” (Widener Branch Library 2808 W. Lehigh Ave, 1pm – 2pm)

2/25- The Mural Arts Guild is working with the Philly Urban Creators every Monday and Wednesday to assist in building the capacity of the community garden program. Projects will include building greenhouses, painting murals, and building tool sheds. Expertise from the on-staff carpenter will also be provided by the Guild. (11th and Dakota-Penrose Neighborhood, 10am – 3pm)

2/25- What’s your Story? (Black History Month Program) “This workshop will provide a general overview of Black History in the United States by examining several musical forms that have been developed here. These musical forms will be placed within their larger historical context. As molders of our present and our future, participants will be asked to tell their own stories in musical form by highlighting the contributions that they will make and for which they will be remembered. This program is intended primarily for school-age children and teens.” (Widener Branch Library 2808 W. Lehigh Ave, 4pm – 5pm)

2/25- Philadelphia Youth Music Program in Point Breeze (Fall Classes) “Learn about the music business and get free music production training, engineering instruction and artist development by music industry icons. This activity is free for young people in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia. The program works with young people between the ages of 12 and 17 years old.” (Wilson Park Community Recreation Center 2500 Jackson Street, 4pm – 7pm)

2/26- “Please join us at the Lawncrest Library for the monthly PhillyRising meeting. This meeting is your chance to review the tasks we have completed, and give us ideas for new projects PhillyRising can start in Lawncrest. All neighborhood residents are invited to attend!” (Lawncrest Library, 6098 Rising Sun Avenue, 6pm-7:30pm)

2/26- PhillyRising Youth Ambassadors meeting/Update meeting “This will be the first meeting for the PhillyRising Youth Ambassadors in Southeast Philadelphia. The group of Southeast Philadelphia youth will meet monthly to participate in civic engagement training that focuses on public safety, community building and substance abuse. We will also be doing a PhillyRising update during this meeting. Refreshments will be provided. (United Communities Houston Center, 8th & Snyder Street, 6pm-7pm)

2/27- The Philly311 Mobile Squad will be going out to the Tioga United Methodist Church to discuss the Philly311 Contact Center and Services that we offer. This meeting is open to the public. (Tioga United Methodist Church, 3259 N Broad Street, 6:00pm 7:30pm)

Voters need to include their contact information and voting location in case follow-up is needed.” (Bright Hope Baptist Church, 1601 N. 12th Street, 4:30pm 7:00pm)
