On Friday March 22, 2013 our mascot MOBI311 marched in the parade promoting the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA).
Just 5 years ago, the City of Philadelphia had no central contact point to connect with city services; the City used a switch board for directory assistance. Now Philadelphia has a thriving 311 system, accepting over 1 million calls each year. Citizens can connect with the city government by phone, email, a walk-in center, Twitter or Facebook. The recently launched Philly311 Mobile App allows citizens to communicate with city government in 16 different languages—users can send a service request with a picture, look up specific property history or comment on requests made by neighborhoods, all from their smart phone.
Such rapid innovation almost seems worthy of its own time travel exhibit at the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts—maybe next year.
PIFA events began on March 28 and will continue through April 27. For more information, visit the PIFA website.
